LDS Church's Policy Regarding The Family and Temple Weddings
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is known for promoting close family ties and advertises itself as such. The signers of this petition agree that the current policy of the LDS Church which allows only LDS Church Members in good standing to attend their LDS family-member or loved-one's temple wedding is not only cruel and divisive, but in direct conflict with the LDS Church's heavily advertised and marketed pro-family stance. We believe there have been hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of God's children whose hearts have been broken as they have been excluded by the LDS Church from attending their loved-one's temple wedding. We urge and exhort leaders of the LDS church to earnestly and prayerfully reconsider this policy, a policy which needlessly breaks the hearts of thousands of LDS and non-LDS families alike each year, including the hearts of parents who have spent a lifetime of love and sacrifice raising their children, only to be excluded from the most important and most anticipated day of their children's lives. The result of this divisive policy which we believe to be anti-family is heartache, despair, resentment and anger---emotions which are certainly inconsistent with the mission of any Christian church, particularly one that promotes strong family values.
