Family and Friends:
As most of you know I am excited to be training for the 2008 Boston Marathon. I have been a spectator and follower of the race for years but have always had a deep desire to be running the race instead of watching. This year I have the opportunity to run by raising money for an amazing charity, Casa Myrna Vazquez, New England's largest domestic violence shelter. By accomplishing this goal for myself of finishing the race I will be accomplishing the more important goal of helping Casa Myrna Vazquez to end domestic violence forever.
My friend Taya told me an amazing and inspirational story from when she ran a marathon a few years ago. When she was working her way up the largest and steepest hill of the race a sign a spectator was holding caught her eye. The sign read, "This is the highest part of the race. If you think this is difficult, the pain you experience is nowhere near what people receiving chemotherapy are experiencing". Casa Myrna Vazquez has no affiliation with helping those sick with cancer but to me that sign was about so much more. There are so many people in this world who have no home, no healthcare, are sick, are disabled, have horrible home lives, don't have enough money to eat daily, or are dealing with one of the many other terrible situations that life can throw at you. If I can do my part to help a small percentage of those people I am honored to do so. I am thankful every single day for my two healthy children, loving husband, wonderful family and loyal friends. So on April 21 when I am running the many hills of the Boston Marathon I will be thinking of Taya's story. I may experience some difficulties finishing the 26.2 miles but I will remember that the pain is only temporary and it it nothing at all like the emotional and/or physical pain the women and children of Casa Myrna Vazquez face every single day.
I really appreciate any help you can give me. Every little bit supports my goal. Donating through this website is simple, fast, and totally secure. You can also go directly to the Casa Myrna Vazquez website at www.casamyrna.org
