Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
As many of you know, I have developed a joy of running over the past few years.  Aside from the physical rewards, I have enjoyed participating in numerous local races to benefit many worthy causes.

Now the big one!

My nephew, Dominic, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis this past year.

Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disorder that affects over 30,000 Americans. This disease is marked by a failure to thrive, chronic infections, clogged airways, and digestive and reproductive problems.  In cystic fibrosis patients, problems occur because the mucus in their lungs is very thick and sticky. Instead of serving as a lubricant, it clogs the respiratory system and allows bacteria to grow within it, impairing the body's natural defenses. The thick mucus also obstructs the pancreas, preventing enzymes from reaching the intestines to digest food.  Although cystic fibrosis is not yet curable, the good news is that the situation is not hopeless. Each day since the cystic fibrosis gene was discovered in 1989, the pace of CF research has greatly accelerated, and scientists continue to find ways to help those who live with the disease.  The average age of a person with CF is 36.8 and increasing

In honor of Dominic's bright future, I am channeling my love of running towards the fight against cystic fibrosis.  To help in the CF fight, I will run in the 2008 NYC Marathon on November 2nd as part of Team Boomer and I hope to have your support.  The 26.2 mile race wiDeadline: Friday, January 02, 2009Tags: waldwick nj, nyc marathon, winjuly, children
