$20 — Will provide training materials for a teacher on vermiculture-compost methods$50 — Will provide materials to demonstrate water harvesting techniques.$100 — Will provide one hour of expert university level horticultural training SummaryThe Growing Connection trains youth and their communities to grow produce with water-saving, high-yield techniques and connects them to the Internet for info, advice, and communications with peers.Project Needs and BeneficiariesEducators in Ghana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic participate in TGC. They introduce TGC to communities, teach their students about agriculture, and advise them on how to bring extra produce to the market. Students learn skills and provide food and money for families - breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty. By bringing international teachers together, they will learn from each other and discuss how to make TGC more beneficial to their schools and their communities.ActivitiesIn Guadalajara educators will be trained on innovative horticulture techniques (composting, water harvesting, crop rotation), established business models, and learn how to document progress, transforming their school gardens into business ventures.Potential Long Term ImpactEducators are the cornerstone of this participant-led, ground-up program.
