Imagine this scenario. You’re lying down in bed for the night, finally turning off the light at the end of a long day. You close your eyes and begin to feel sleepy, only to have a light scratching in the walls snap you wide awake.
You could have a pest infestation. It’s more common than you might think.
Nearly 20% of American homes have some sort of rodent infestation. Termites, bedbugs, and cockroaches are also incredibly common. That’s probably why homeowners spend $7.47 billion on pest control each year.
Today, we’re going to be focusing solely on insects. Here a few signs your home might be insect infested.

How to Tell If Your Home’s Insect Infested
There are many signs of bug infestations in your house. Here are a few tell-tale signs you can keep an eye out for.
1. Lots of Spiders
Spiders eat bugs. If you see a lot of spiders in your house, there’s a good chance you’ve got bugs, too. Those spiders are eating something.
The good news is that spiders help control the number of insects around your house. That’s not necessarily guaranteed. The spiders could disappear, or the insects could multiply.

2. Look for Ladybugs
Like spiders, ladybugs are insect predators. Ladybugs are a good sign when they’re in your garden. They eat aphids, which can destroy a garden. They’re less of a good sign when they’re indoors, however.
Ladybugs predominantly eat whiteflies, mites, and scale insects. If ladybugs are thriving inside your house, it likely means those other types of insects are as well.
3. The Tell-Tale Tap
We’ve already talked about the sound of scratching in your walls. Tapping sounds are an even worse sign.
The sound of tapping is one of the surest signs that you’ve got termites.
Termites are some of the most destructive pests you can get. They never stop eating, burrowing, and digging. Fixing the damage they’ve wrought can be unbelievably expensive, as well.
4. Piles of Fish Scales
“Fish scales” are another prominent sign you’ve got termites. “Termite piles” happen when termites first move to a new nest or reproduce. This makes termite piles a good sign, ironically, as they’re easier to get rid of when they’ve just molted.
Finding termite piles outside doesn’t necessarily mean your house is infested. It does mean they could be moving into your house next, however.
These are just a few of the many potential signs your house is suffering from an insect infestation. If you think you’ve got a bug infestation in your house, you’ll probably want to consult a pest removal company. A little bit of prevention can help spare you a small fortune down the line.
